Plans are under way to build a stadium in Montgomery County with the intention of hosting independent minor league baseball in the county in 2012. All northbound frontage road lanes on Interstate 45 at FM 1097 at Willis were shut for a time early this morning after a high-speed police chase that ended nearby. The Lone Star Groundwater Conservation District will consider rule changes in April to allow underground brackish water supplies to be considered as an alternative water source to meet a mandated reduction in the use of groundwater.

The field is set for the May 8 Conroe municipal elections, with candidates vying for three council positions as well as municipal judge. Eleven candidates have filed for three seats on the Lone Star College System board. Conroe awarded a $2.3 million contract Monday to build Fire Station 4 on FM 1488 after negotiating a lower price with the firm selected by a review committee. Montgomery County plans to commit about $31.5 million in bonds to build a secure mental health facility for criminal defendants.

Texas Department of Transportation officials have lowered the speed limit along Texas 105 in Montgomery County. It's time to get down and dirty, even if you're still waiting to see which plants have survived the long, cold winter. This year's Leadership Montgomery County class is working on several projects at The Community Clinic.

Montgomery County’s largest new development is sprouting up in the center of the county, with hopes of growing into the next upscale hometown for the area. The Lone Star College System Board of Trustees authorized the sale of $120 million in bonds and approved new facilities for its Tomball, Kingwood and Montgomery campuses as well as new satellite center in Atascocita and Aldine. Jury selection gets under way next week in the capital murder trial of Blaine Keith Milam, who faces the death penalty for his alleged involvement in the beating death of his fiancee’s 13-month-old child. Houston Run for the Fallen is slated for March 20 at College Park High School.

A Rusk County capital murder case has been moved to Montgomery County. Preparations are under way for the 2010 Montgomery County Fair. The Montgomery County Animal Shelter is holding a volunteer appreciation event March 10 at the Mitchell Library in The Woodlands.

Republican incumbents for Montgomery County seats head to the November election with no Democratic opponents, while candidates for two county courts will face a runoff in April. Candidates have until March 8 to file for three council seats and the municipal judge’s chair in the May city elections.

An assistant Montgomery County District Attorney resigned Monday after being arrested last week, charged of driving while intoxicated. Conroe firefighters rescued a man from a rain-filled creek in Conroe Monday. Lake Conroe-area resident Donald Ferrarone, a former U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration agent, has written a screenplay about an unsolved string of Galveston County murders in what came to be known as the killing fields of League City and along the Gulf Freeway corridor. Magnolia resident Scott Young is a volunteer pilot for Grace Flight of America who flies out of the Lone Star Executive Airport in Conroe.

Smoking will be banned in public spaces, private businesses and city parks in Conroe beginning Monday, and violators will face a $500 fine. The Conroe City Council voted Wednesday to send a revised contract to the San Jacinto River Authority and 200 large water providers in the county for consideration. Students from around the Conroe Independent School District showcased their knack for science during the Education for Tomorrow Alliance's SCI://TECH 2010 Elementary School Science exhibit booths at the Lone Star College-Montgomery campus on Saturday. The Montgomery County Heart Association held its annual gala Saturday at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott.

A Willis-area couple suffered second-and third-degree burns over 30 percent to 40 percent of their bodies in a house fire early Thursday, according to Montgomery County Fire Marshal officials. The Literacy Volunteers of America has announced plans to commemorate 20 years of providing literacy training in Montgomery County by hosting a celebration March 10. The big science fair finale kicks off Saturday Feb. 27 at Lone Star College-Montgomery.

The Conroe City Council has postponed a vote on a contract to build Fire Station 4 after the staff did not recommend the low bidder for the job. A man and a woman were badly burned in a house fire early this morning in northern Montgomery County. A motorist was killed Wednesday when his sports car slammed into a TxDOT maintenance vehicle.
