The Montgomery County Association of Business Women (MCABW) awarded their annual scholarships to four women, two MCABW members and two high school seniors, at their May monthly luncheon held at Incredible Pizza in Conroe. Recipients included member, Bonnie Hubert, who will be applying her scholarship to a Masters degree in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from the University of Texas at Arlington. Bonnie is the Crisis Intervention Specialist for the Conroe Independent School District, and the former Mrs. Texas International. Bree Kidd of Bree Kidd Photography and who is also a MCABW member, will be applying her scholarship to advanced Photoshop training in order to work more efficiently and offer more value-added services to her clients as well as the MCABW.
The two community high school seniors who were awarded scholarships include Alexandrea Griffith of Oak Ridge High School, who is graduating Summa Cum Laude, and will attend the University of Texas at Dallas to pursue a degree in Health Care Administration. Also Alexis Stoner from Caney Creek High School, who will attend Sam Houston State University to pursue a degree in General Business Administration. With the exception of Bree Kidd of The Woodlands, the other three recipients are from the Greater Conroe area.
Scholarship Committee team leader, Caroline Griffin, said that her committee is always faced with making difficult choices when selecting the scholarship recipients because there are so many deserving individuals. When asked about the determining factor, she replied “one of the things we look for are the individuals who best express how they will help others by achieving their goal.” Although not involved in the decision-making process, Gloria Copeland who is a board member, was present during the selection process to represent the board and be able to report back to them. She remarked “I was pleased with the Scholarship Committee’s choices, and more than satisfied with their justification.”
Founder and Director of the MCABW, Carol Gooch, said “Our scholarship program is one of the most intrinsically rewarding projects we do. Helping our members achieve their business goals is at the core of our mission. Helping young ladies graduating from high school who aspire to be successful in business, is an added bonus.” Gooch did add that the board has expressed an interest in raising more money for the Scholarship Program in order to increase the amount of the scholarships and possibly award more than four annually. This year’s MCABW annual fundraiser on September 30th, will benefit the MCABW Scholarship Program. Save the date!
The MCABW is a 501(c)6 non-profit organization comprised of approximate three hundred business women in Montgomery County, Texas, although some business women from north Harris County have joined as well.
