Willis ISD Athletics Director Ben Cooper has announced he will retire at the end of the current school year.
In a statement on the Willis ISD website, Cooper said he had been planning for months to retire so that he and wife, Sharon, could spend time following the athletic activities of their grandchildren at Crandall High School, south of Dallas.
He said he would stay on with the school district in an administrative capacity to be determined by WISD Superintendent Dr. Brian Zemlicka.
Cooper spent 31 years in Willis and 18 years in the WISD. His four sons went to Willis High School.
“I must say I bleed purple and white,” Cooper said.
