The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office will be out in force for Spring Break looking for drunken drivers.

The sheriff will have target patrol out on Montgomery County streets from March 12 through March 21. Through grant funds from the state, the deputies will specifically target intoxicated driver.

“The problem of drunk driving will not solve itself and the deadly consequences of driving during are obvious,” said Lt. Dan Norris of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office. “Each person can and should do something about drunk driving.”

The sheriff’s office is asking for the public’s help to address drunken driving in the county by reporting impaired drivers by calling 911 and providing the dispatcher with a description of the location, color and license plate of the vehicle. To protect yourself from drunken drivers, always make sure everyone in the car wears a seatbelt.

Since spring break is often a time of celebration, it is important to stop friends from drinking and driving. Designate a sober driver before an outing. Take the keys from friends who have had too much to drink and arrange a safe ride home. Do not provide alcohol to anyone under 21 years old and don’t drive with anyone who is impaired, Norris said.
