Transition Resource Fair
The Conroe ISD Department of Special Education Services Parent Resource Center is gearing up for the annual Transition Resource Fair Thursday, March 4 at The Woodlands College Part High School, 6-8 p.m. There are over 70 exhibitors signed up to share information and support agency speakers from the Social Security, Tri County Mental Health and Mental Retardation, and the Department of Assistive Rehabilitative Services (DARS). This is a fabulous opportunity for parents and students to connect to community and post-graduate resources. For more information call 936-709-8210.
Anderson Elementary
The campus Teacher of the Year is Ms. Rachel Walters and the Campus Humanitarian of the Year is Mrs. Edna Short.
Austin Elementary
Students, staff, and parents recently enjoyed a special treat to the Rainbow Roller Rink sponsored by the Parent Teacher Organization. The school mascot joined the group for a great time of skating and fun.
Birnham Woods Elementary
The first grade students paraded their western display boxes and the second grade students showed off their horse projects for students and parents during the recent “Go Texan Day” parade.
First grade students will attend “The True Tale of Robin Hood” at College Park High School on Thursday, March 4. They will also enjoy a lunch picnic at North Shore Park in the Woodlands.
Kindergarten students will visit Old McDonald’s Farm on March 5.
Buckalew Elementary
Friday, March 5, students will participate in the “Walk for Diabetes” event. In addition to walking, students will learn about diabetes and the importance of making healthy choices including eating nutritional foods and exercising every day.
Third graders will participate in Camp Read-A-Long held on March 10.
Spring pictures will be taken March 11.
First grade’s Rodeo Day will take place on Friday, March 12.
Bush Elementary
Everyone is invited to the Kindergarten program of "Kickin’ It Up Kindergarten Style!” The program showcases the physical education skills set to music and is scheduled for Tuesday, March 9 at 6:30 p.m. in the school gym.
College Park HS
Members of the College Park Future Farmers of America (FFA) celebrated National FFA Week with several fun events and community service activities. The National FFA Organization has been in existence since 1928. Students from College Park High School joined with other Conroe ISD schools for the First Annual FFA Bowling Night at Main Event in the Woodlands. College Park, The Woodlands, and Oak Ridge High Schools participated in this fun event. FFA Members also recently sponsored a staff appreciation breakfast
Congratulations to the Dance Team Reveliers and Coaches Tara Gourley and Sandra Dunn on the results of the Crowd Pleasers Dance Contest. Officers earned Super Sweepstakes - for earning an average score of 90+, Best in Class- Jazz, Overall Technical Merit Award - Highest average score of all technical styles (which include jazz, lyrical, modern, hip hop, contemporary), Outstanding Technique - high scores in technique and First Runner Up Grand Champion. The Dance Team earned Super Sweepstakes - for earning an average score of 90+, Best in Class-Kick, Best in Class-Jazz, Second place for the Pom Routine, Showcase Elite (Top Scoring Teams) and Grand Champion.
The Dance Team also participated in the Prestige Dance Contest with the following students earning ribbons for Solo Performances: Beth Stanley, Second Place; Melissa Smith, First Place;
Sarah Steinbauer, Second Place; Kirstie Tullis, Third Place; and Amanda Johnston, Fourth Place.
In Trio competition Lauren Andreas, Tania Brown, and Michelle Dunn earned First Place
Officers earned First Place in Modern, Jazz and Lyrical Dance. Team members earned First Place in Jazz, Pom, Kick, Lyrical and the Judges and Overall Judge’s Awards.
Creighton Elementary
Creighton students are actively engaged in Earn to Learn, sponsored by Gullo Toyota: a program that pays students $1 for every book he/she reads. Students can earn as much as $21.
Kindergarten students celebrated famed children’s books author, Dr. Seuss, on Tuesday, March 2. The title of their theme was Diffendoofer Day. Kindergarten students participated in fun and creative activities, some of which included making green eggs and ham in the classroom; students also made and decorated the traditional Dr. Seuss hat.
Third grade students participated in Math Facts Bee by taking tests which are timed and contain a variety of basic facts involving simple computations in solving addition, subtraction, multiplication and division problems. The higher the grade level, the harder the problems are.
First grade students recently studies Texas history and culture and even dressed up in western attire during many activities.
English as a Second Language (ESL) classes will be held on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6-8 p.m. Childcare is provided on the premises.
David Elementary
Destination Imagination Teams will participate in the regional competition on Saturday, March 6 at McCullough Jr. High School from 8:30 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Galatas Elementary
Congratulations to Teacher of the Year, second grade teacher Kelsey Josephson, and Humanitarian of the Year, Physical Education teacher Kaci Bale. Both are teachers who show continued passion for the students they teach, and excellence in the contributions they make.
An octopus and a great white shark will be among the singers at the second grade’s production of “Go Fish.” Parents are invited to swim through the crowds and see the presentation at 7 p.m.
Students will be commemorating Texas, and symbols of our state, including bluebonnets, pecan trees and of course, boots and cowboys this week when they celebrate “Go Texan Week.” Special activities are planned for Kindergarten students and Young Audiences of Houston will present “The Story of the Lone Star State.”
Students will have a week of physical education classes dedicated to learning the art of golf with golf instructors from Total Golf Adventures, and a special thanks to CB & I for sponsoring this.
Giesinger
Volunteers will be honored on Friday, March 5 at a luncheon given by the staff.
Grangerland Intermediate
Students have a fun incentive program as they improve their TAKS skills. As each student masters a task, they earn a chance to vote to place one of their teachers in the passenger seat of a race car in "The Race to Success” that will be held at Gator Motorplex in April. Every student has a favorite teacher they want to see suited up in racing gear and racing on the track. Students are working extremely hard to master objectives in reading, math and science.
Hailey Elementary
Hailey Elementary faculty and parents recognized one student from each class during a presentation of “Spotlight on Character.” The students were selected based on their demonstration of the six pillars of character: trustworthy, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship. February’s “Spotlight on Character” honored students who regularly display fairness.
Houser Elementary
Second grade students will be going on a field trip to the Houston Livestock Show on March 4.
Chuckie Cheese Night will be from 3-9 p.m. on March 4.
The fourth grade Carnival will be on March 5.
Houston Elementary
The faculty and staff recently elected Leslie Blanchard as Teacher of the Year and Lisa Wagner as their Humanitarian of the Year. Mrs. Blanchard is the school’s music teacher, and Mrs. Wagner is the school’s nurse. The Friend of Education is Allison Calderon who is a parent volunteer at the school.
The second grade students at Sam Houston are studying weather in their science classes. There was a surprise visit to the school by Mike Iscovitz from Fox News 26 Weather Department. He brought the high tech Weather Hummer for the students to observe. There may be future meteorologists at Sam Houston.
Natalie Gee, the school counselor, announces The N.E.D. Show is coming to Sam Houston on Friday, March 5. There will be an assembly for the students in the school cafeteria. The N.E.D. Show encourages students to “Never give up,” “Encourage others,” and “Do your best.”
Oak Ridge Elementary
Spring Fest 2010 will take place on Saturday, March 6, from 9 a.m. -2 p.m. There will be a Craft Show, Bake Sale and Children’s Festival along with other exciting events!
Oak Ridge HS
Calculus students went to see the performance of "Calculus: The Musical!" at the College Park auditorium. Mrs. Hollis and her students found the musical very entertaining and educational. The classes now have songs to help them remember the difficult concepts taught in the Advanced Placement (AP) Calculus Classes.
The Indoor Color Guard competed at Cypress Lakes High School and came away with the "First Place Trophy.”
The Air Force Junior ROTC held their Military Ball at the Woodlands Waterway Marriott. The Military Court was introduced: Lord, Gustavo Mendez; Lady, Amanda Cantu; Duke, Sawyer Eldredge; Duchess, Amanda Chavez; Prince, Ryan Martof; Princess, Amber Cantu; King, Adam Pearson; and Queen, Nicole Albrecht.
Ride Elementary
March is recognized across our nation as Youth Art Month. Art teachers of CISD host an exhibit at each of the Montgomery County Libraries. Ride will exhibit at the South County Public Library, 2101 Lake Robbins Drive. The following talented Challengers will have their art on display: Fourth grade, Kaci Roberson; Second grade, Benjamin Black; First grade, Abigail Kremer; and Kindergarten, Dylan Mooney. The Texas Art Education Association sponsors a Youth Art Month Exhibit at the state capitol in Austin each year. This exhibit represents artwork from fifty school districts across the state. This year, fourth grade student Abbigail Zimmerman’s artwork was chosen as one of five pieces of art to represent CISD. An awards ceremony will be held in the capitol building on Sunday, March 7 to honor these artists.
Tough Elementary
Italian Grill Night will be held on March 6 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. This is a traditional family fun event featuring dinner by The Olive Garden, a kid’s raffle, exciting new art projects by students, entertainment for the kids, as well as our extensive silent auction. Proceeds raised from this event will be used to purchase campus enhancements for the benefit of every student.
Wilkinson Elementary
Wilkinson Elementary is participating the Pennies for Patients program benefiting the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Students have been bringing in change and monetary donations to help this cause. Currently students have raised $1,407.07, with hopes to raise $3,000. The last day students are able to bring in money is Wednesday, March 10.
